PHILOSOPHY

Our company philosophy revolves around knowing as much as we can about the provenance of our clothing. Knowing the provenance means more than just where it comes from. It means knowing who made it, what it's made of, and what impact it may have on both the environment and the people involved in making it. Everything we make has its own story and comes from a strong desire to create a direct synergy between the weaver and the designer. Thus bringing us one step closer to 'living off the land.'

CLOTHING

The classic styling of our casual clothing is designed for everyday adventures. A 1940's silhouette infused with New England spirit and a touch of local traditions and methods inspires the current collection. Designed to last, these clothes fit into your life and remain for years to come.

FABRIC AND MANUFACTURING

When we noticed that some of the best organic cotton came from India, we planned a trip to the subcontinent. When we embarked upon our textile odyssey, we were expecting to find amazing fabric. We certainly found our fabric, but we also found so much more. We discovered the people. We got to meet handloom weavers, embroiderers, independent tailors, and fabric manufacturers. Most of the people we met had one thing in common: by entering into their profession, they were continuing a family legacy. Finding such depth of skill concentrated in independent tailor shops and weaving villages was impressive. It's not something you often see in a more industrialized place, like America. What made us sad is how undervalued these skilled craftsmen are in the marketplace. We decided that we wanted to somehow include their skills and talents in our collections. So, we teamed up with a like-minded studio in Delhi and started to figure out the best way to manufacture our limited-edition collections. We wanted to make sure that the people involved in the production process are treated well and make a fair wage. We even got to tour the facility to see the people and their work environment with our own eyes. As we start-up and grow our business, we aim to continue our involvement with the craftspeople of India. Ultimately, we'd like to help preserve the livelihood of the handloom weavers while minimizing any environmental harm they may unknowingly be causing.

Currently, all of our fabric is premium cotton and certified organic cotton from India. It is colored using low impact AZO-free dye. Skilled craftsmen in our New Delhi studio do the hand stitched detail work and the garments are stitched in a small nearby facility.
